There are moments when grief makes God feel distant; not because He is, but because pain can quiet everything else.

Psalm 145:18 gently reminds me of something I need to hear again and again: “The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.” This verse doesn’t require perfect words or strong faith. It only asks for honesty.

In grief, calling on God in truth may sound like, “Lord, I’m tired.” Or, “I don’t know what I need right now.” Or even, “Please help me, in Jesus’ name.”

God’s nearness isn’t earned by doing more; it’s invited by being real.

When I pause and intentionally invite His presence, something shifts. Not always my circumstances, but my breathing. My nervous system. My sense of being held instead of abandoned.

Relief doesn’t always come as answers. Sometimes it comes as nearness.

If today feels heavy, let this be your prayer: “God, come close.”

According to His Word, He already is.
