I want to get things done. I have goals. I value follow-through.

But I’m learning that rest is not the opposite of faithfulness; it can be an expression of it.

There are moments when I realize something I planned isn’t working. My first instinct is to push harder. Try again. Override the resistance. But grief and wisdom have taught me to pause and ask a better question: Is this a challenge I’m meant to overcome; or a nudge to rest?

Scripture reminds us, “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength” (Isaiah 30:15). Strength doesn’t always come from effort. Sometimes it comes from stopping.

Jesus also said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Rest was not a reward for finishing; it was an invitation in the middle of the work.

Resting without quitting means I stay committed, but I stop striving.

I listen. I recalibrate. I allow God to lead the pace.

Pausing doesn’t mean I’m giving up.

It means I’m trusting God enough to obey when He says, “Rest now.”

And that kind of rest still moves the journey forward.
